Event Description:

Pinkerton Symposium
The Science of Positive Youth Development “Can Youth Justice Be Compatible With Science?”
March 16, 2015
9:00 am - 1:30pm
New Building , Dining Hall

Note: This event was originally scheduled for January 28th and was rescheduled for March 16th due to weather. If you already registered for the January 28th symposium, please re-register for this one. We are hoping to have all of the speakers from the January 28th event also speak at this one. Speakers will be added below as they are confirmed.

Please join us at John Jay College on March 16th for a conversation on the growing science of adolescent development and the extent to which developmental knowledge informs the practice of youth justice. Speakers will address questions such as:

  • Have the concepts and values of science really started to affect day-to-day practices in youth justice?
  • What would a truly developmental youth justice system look like, and how far are we from achieving this goal?

March 16th will be the first session in a two-part series on positive youth development. The second session will be held at John Jay College on April 14th, 2015, and will be led by the Youth Development Institute (YDI). The session with YDI will focus on the practical applications of the theories discussed at the March 16th event. Both events are generously sponsored by the Pinkerton Foundation and organized by the Pinkerton Fellowship Initiative at John Jay College.
