Songbirds Of Civil Rights: Women's History Month Concert

"Songbirds of Civil Rights: Women's History Month Concert," a fundraiser for the Department of Africana Studies in association with the Cobi Narita Jazz Center of New York and the John Jay Center for Student Involvement & Leadership, will celebrate the lives and works of legendary singers Sarah Vaughan, Melba Liston, Ella Fitzgerald, Ethel Waters, Mary Lou Williams, Billie Holiday, Hazel Scott, Bessie Smith, Lena Horne, and Nina Simone among other renowned performers.
Featured performers will include singer Joyce Griffin, pianist/singer Emme Kemp, singer Melba Joyce, pianist Deanna Witkowski, singer Baano, singer Tina Fabrique, singer Angeline Butler,
Sue Samuel's Jazz Roots Dance Company, NEA Jazz Master Trumpeter Jimmy Owens, pianist Kiyoko Yamaoka, guitarist Saul Rubin, bassist Saadi Zain, drummerSilvia Cuenca and more.
