(Earth Day-Free Screening and Panel Discussion)

'Can’t Stop the Water',
a film by Rebecca Marshall Ferris and Jacob Ferris,  tells the story of Chief Albert Naquin whose Louisiana tribe is being displaced because of extreme environmental change. For 170 years, the Isle de Jean Charles Band of Biloxi-Chitimacha-Choctaw has thrived on an island deep in the bayous of south Louisiana. Now their island is almost gone, destroyed by decades of oil exploration, government levees, and rising seas. They are among the first victims of the crisis of land loss that threatens to wash away hundreds of Gulf Coast communities. But the tribe has plans other than being a victim! Chief Albert Naquin has partnered with activists and academics to design their community'srelocation and cultural survival. Their vision will serve as a model for other communities facing the inevitable challenges brought in with the rising tide.Come build climate justice, and learn about the tribe's story of resilience and hope as Chief Albert unveils their innovative plans for relocation.

The award-winning documentary will be introduced by the filmmakers and followed by a panel discussion with Chief Albert Naquin, Bob Gough of Intertribal Council on Utility Policy, and anthropologist and climate justice expert, Julie Maldonado. A reception will follow. For more info, visit:
