Event Description:

Human Security in the Horn of Africa
Organized by the Center for International Human Rights

The Center for International Human Rights at John Jay College opens its 2017/18 series with a panel session on the Horn of Africa. After a brief introduction to the history and culture of this region, the panelists will focus on the Horn of Africa’s major human rights crises, including food insecurity and the plight of refugees. Then the public will be invited to engage with the panelists in Q&A for twenty minutes. The event will end with a buffet that will give participants a chance to continue the conversation on the main human rights issues occurring in the Horn of Africa. Through this event, the Center hopes to spread awareness of some of the historical highlights and the current forgotten crises affecting human security in the Horn of Africa.
