Event Description:
HURRICANES AND JUSTICE
CRIMINAL JUSTICE MATTERS ON CUNY TV
When Hurricane Maria swept through Puerto Rico last August, the storm did more than uproot homes and lives; it ravaged an already troubled justice system. William Ramirez, director of the island’s ACLU chapter, and Professor Jodie Roure of John Jay College explore the tragic consequences that continue to impact Puerto Ricans today—ranging from increases in homicides and reports of domestic sexual abuse to non-functioning courts and crippled law enforcement---with Criminal Justice Matters host Stephen Handelman.
