Event Description:
Dr. Yorick Smaal (the Spring 2019 John Jay Research Visiting Scholar) explores the lives and loves of queer soldiers in the South Pacific in the Second World War. He examines how men in the forces forged new beginnings and possibilities, exchanged ideas and practices across home and forward bases, and created vibrant and fulfilling lives despite the threat of institutional discovery, prosecution and discharge.
