Event Description:

This is the third installment of the Master of Arts in International Crime and Justice Fall 2019 lecture series.

Ibrahim Bechrouri is a Ph.D. candidate at the French Institute of Geopolitics, as well as an Adjunct Lecturer at John Jay College (CUNY). As a Fulbright grantee and visiting scholar at Columbia University, Ibrahim led field research on the New York Police Department’s (NYPD) counter-terrorism policies, their effects on communities and the ways said communities have resisted policies perceived as unfair. Currently, Ibrahim is completing his PhD dissertation, entitled "A Geopolitical Approach of the New York Police Department's Counter-terrorism Strategies: a Multi-scalar Analysis." 

His research interests include Terrorism Studies, Surveillance Studies, Colonialism and Postcolonial Studies, Critical Race Theory, and Geopolitics. Ibrahim is regularly invited to share his expertise on the effects of counter-terrorism policies by such organizations as the Open Society Foundation (OSF), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the European Institute of the Mediterranean and the European (IEMed) and Network Against Racism (ENAR). He has also shared his work at a number of universities including University of California Berkeley, Columbia University, Université du Québec à Montréal and Sciences Po Paris.
