Event Description:
HOW TO IMPEACH A PRESIDENT:
Seminar on the Constitutional Remedy of Last Resort in the Age of Trump
November 21, 2019
1:40-3:00pm
9th Floor Conference Room (9.64), NB
The impeachment and removal process is one of the most powerful remedies provided by the Constitution to protect the American people against serious misconduct by federal officers, but it is also among the least understood. Come to the Seminar and find out:
- What are the constitutional grounds for impeachment?
• Is the commission of an actual crime required?
• In the case of Trump, is it necessary to prove a quid pro quo?
- How many U.S. Presidents have been impeached and what were the grounds?
- Have any U.S. Presidents been removed from office following impeachment?
- And, if the House were to impeach Trump, and the Senate were to remove him, what would happen next?
These questions and countless others will be answered on Nov. 21st. There will be a brief lecture, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Retired Professor Michael S. Hiller (John Jay College, 2005-2013). John Jay Faculty are encouraged to participate in the panel. Don’t miss out!
