Event Description:
As a founding partner in the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCC) father/child reunion program called Celebrate Your Children, Angela James travels the State of New York photographing men and women in prison and where possible, their children, through portrait and event photography. In her talk, she will discuss the process of establishing trust and respect within the prison environment resulting in shared mutuality, collaboration and meaningful photography, as well as share samples of her portfolio. Additional New York State Department of Corrections prison projects include Parole Summits, College Graduation, portrait photography related to holidays, and other Certificate Events and programs where people in prison are recognized for their accomplishments.
ANGELA JAMES is a free lance portrait and events photographer based in New York City. She provides returning citizens from prison with the experience of a professional photo shoot and an immediate free printed head shot to be used in support of their new life going forward. Angela works in collaboration with a wide range of non-profit organizations supporting men and women returning home from
incarceration.
