Thursday, April 20th

Moot Courtroom, Room 6.68NB
Ben Bierman is Associate Professor of Music at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He is both a scholar and performer of 20th-century American music, including jazz, blues, R&B, pop, and concert music. As a trumpet player, producer, and bandleader, Ben has performed with artists such as B.B. King, Archie Shepp, Celia Cruz, and Stevie Ray Vaughn.
Listening to Jazz offers an engaging introduction to the rich history and culture of jazz, including its evolution and how its various styles intersect and blend. Bierman’s understanding and love of music lead to a uniquely humanizing portrayal of the 20th century’s most important musical genre.
