Lessons Learned on the Way to a PhD
A lot of what we need to know to succeed in achieving the highest degree in a chosen field is “cultural knowledge”—knowledge of the behaviors and norms that are “expected” but not generally verbalized. This will be a talk on a personal journey of discovery of this knowledge in getting a PhD in science as well as a declaration of the rewards that come with such a journey.
PRISM supports a diverse community of undergraduate students at John Jay College by preparing them to pursue post-graduate education in science and health through research and professional development. Funding for this event was provided by a grant from the Office for the Advancement of Research at John Jay College. PRISM is supported by grants from the U.S. Department of Education and the New York State Education Department (CSTEP).
