Lincoln Center Festival Presents
Le Trio Jourbran
In The Shadow of Words
Nomadic Nights: Music at the Crossroads
July 29, 2017 at 8:00pm
“Among the most inventive musicians in the Arab world,” (Guardian, U.K.) Nazareth-born brothers Samir, Wissam, and Adnan Joubran seamlessly blend traditional Arabic music with inflections derived from jazz, rock, and flamenco. At this intimate performance, they pay tribute to one of their most influential collaborators—the great Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish who died in 2008. Reading his poem “The Dice Player,” among others, Darwish’s recorded voice floats over the trio’s winding melodies while images and the poem’s words are projected, sparking a soulful dialogue between worlds.
