Event Description:
Advances in Cybersecurity Higher Education;
Building real-world Experience before you graduate

Christopher May
Technical Director
Cyber Workforce Development
CERT® Cybersecurity Division
Software Engineering Institute
Carnegie Mellon University

Abstract:
Traditional cybersecurity degree programs succeed in developing students’ subject matter knowledge and even some practical hands-on skills.  However, building relevant experience in dealing with the many types of challenging cybersecurity situations students will face as future employees is still difficult for most institutions.  In this presentation, we will discuss several approaches and technologies that enable educators at Carnegie Mellon University to develop real-world experience in their students.  Highly realistic simulations and virtual environments as well as scenario-based, hands-on team exercises will be demonstrated and attendees with laptops may even get the opportunity to login and build some experience for themselves.

RSVP to CyberCrimeCenter@jjay.cuny.edu.  For additional information and a detailed bio of Chris May please visit the Events page of the Center for Cybercrime Studies Web site http://www.jjay.cuny.edu/center-cybercrime-studies.
