Michael Brownstein is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. His research focuses on the philosophy of cognitive science and psychology, integrating empirical research with philosophical theorizing. Dr. Brownstein is co-author of 2016 two-volume series Implicit Bias and Philosophy, and was recently awarded the Scholarly Excellence Award and a CUNY Mid-Career Fellowship.

The Implicit Mind draws from empirical research in social psychology, intergroup psychology, implicit social cognition and more, to offer one of the first philosophical accounts of implicit bias and address the central questions of interest to philosophers about implicit attitudes.
