NEGOTIATING PAST STEREOTYPES

This presentation will examine the fraught topic of how our stereotypes can impact our negotiations. Although we may all wish to believe that we are beyond thinking in stereotypical ways, recent research reveals the startling -- and sometimes insidious -- impact of deeply ingrained gender (and other) stereotypes.  Intriguingly, the research also suggests some counter-intuitive solutions. Dr. Weaver's academic work focuses on how women learn to speak up and negotiate on their own behalf. This presentation will encourage debate about just how "gender-neutral" negotiations can be, and review ways to help clients build techniques to become better, and less biased, negotiators.
