Imagining a future after high school; A comparative ethnography of aspiration and age imaginaries in New York City and London.
Abstract:
In this paper I consider the emerging findings from a two-year comparative ethnography beginning in 2014, exploring the themes of imagined futures, aspiration and transitions into adulthood among school leavers in New York City and London. Building on my existing research into age and social identity, this research presents new theoretical perspectives on how the future is figured as part of the experience of schooling, in relation to other closely connected concepts including age, identity, personhood and aspiration.
