Please join us on Tuesday, April 14th, for the second half of our two-part symposium series on positive youth development. This event will be facilitated by the Youth Development Institute and will focus on the practical applications of the theories discussed at our March 16th symposium on the science of positive youth development.

Research demonstrates that young people thrive in environments in which they are able to cultivate positive relationships, build a range of competencies and make meaningful contributions in the world around them. These elements coupled with the notion that young people are at the center of their own development with intrinsic strengths that should be fostered is at the core of Positive Youth Development (PYD).

The ability to embrace and implement PYD is an ART that must be cultivated with great intention. Practitioners across the country who work with court involved youth gravitate to PYD because it offers an opportunity to move beyond “fixing” youth to preparing them for a meaningful life. Those who have been successful have been part of well-crafted programs that invest time and resources to the deliberate implementation of PYD in the services, supports and opportunities offered to youth.

You are invited to participate in an experience and conversation led by the Youth Development Institute (YDI) on ways in which to integrate PYD into programs that serve court involved youth. YDI has worked with agencies across the country to help them cultivate a culture, hone competencies and implement practices that promote PYD. This symposium will highlight all three through:

• Presentation of PYD framework
• Case Studies and examination of dilemmas of practice
• Practitioner led panel discussions
• Demonstration and sharing of promising strategies
