Led by Artistic Director Joseph Colaneri, the critically acclaimed Mannes Opera Young Artists present a complete, fully staged performance of Cosi fan tutte by Mozart, in collaboration with the Mannes Orchestra.
Così fan tutte (literally “So Do They All” and often translated as “Women Are Like That”) was Mozart’s third and last collaboration with Lorenzo Da Ponte, who was also librettist for Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni. Così fan tutte is at once an entertaining, satirical, romantic comedy and a profound and poignant exploration of the mysteries of the human heart. Premiered in Vienna in January 1790 and set in contemporary Naples, the twists and turns of its famously clever plot involves a series of contretemps between four attractive and idealistic young lovers, a crafty maidservant, and a jaded man of the world. “The perfect opera,” termed by some, contains some of Mozart’s most beautiful music, yet the social and moral questions raised are still controversial.
