Restorative Practices in the Schools: What are we Restoring?
This session will explore the Tiers of Restorative Practices and how schools are moving from punishment models to effective accountability for students and others. Find out what’s behind this Department of Education mandate, what it is and what it isn’t. Tara Fishler will provide a guided tour of Restorative work in school settings.
Tara Fishler, a Conflict Resolution Specialist, has taught conflict resolution and related skills to thousands of adults and students in schools and organizations. She founded “Customized Training Solutions” in 2003. Currently, she is the Director of Learning and Development for Creative Response to Conflict (CRC). Recently, Ms. Fishler was the Restorative Practices Coordinator for Lehman HS in the Bronx, through Morningside Center for Teaching Social Responsibility. She is also a NYS Certified trainer for the Dignity for All Students Act. Ms. Fishler is widely known for her facilitation skills and for strategic planning. She has authored articles about bullying, related to children with and without special needs, as well as bullying in the workplace. She has served on the Executive Boards of the Association for Conflict Resolution. the Association for Conflict Resolution of Greater New York, and the NYS Resolution Association.
