Jay College’s Department of Africana Studies presents

Songbirds 2:
A Celebration of Women in African American Theatre

March 10, 2016 at 7:00pm

In honor of Women’s History Month, the Africana Studies Department presents this educational concert, with Guest of Honor, Ms. Gertrude Jeannette. Now 101 years old, Ms. Jeannette was a playwright and an actress, and in 1979 she founded and has since maintained The H.A.D.L.E.Y. Players in Harlem.  The concert will celebrate women artists who faced racial segregation, the House Un-American Activities Committee, and the financial hardship of the arts, yet who gave us a new understanding of the African American artistic talents and became a part of our world-renowned theatrical legacy.
