Puerto Rico has one of the highest income inequality rates in the nation. Sociologist Zaire Dinzey-Flores, is the author of Locked In, Locked Out: Gated Communities in a Puerto Rican City (U Penn Press, 2013), a ground breaking analysis of an urban housing project in Puerto Rico that shows how architecture and design reinforce a pervasive social inequality. Prof. Dinzey-Flores is Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Rutgers University (New Brunswick).
