Event Description:

Commemoration & Violence in 21st-Century Ireland: A Decade of Centenaries

Guest Speaker: Dr. Dominic Bryan

Join us for a discussion to explore how Ireland is going through a series of commemorations marking key points in Irish history. Dr. Bryan will identify why those dates are important and their relationship to politics and the use of violence. He will argue that whilst these events are described as commemorative, they are not about memory they are about identity. Commemoration is about the politics of the present and the future, not the past.
