Announcing the 2017 Global Leadership Summit Participants!

The NYU Global Leadership Summit Selection Committee is pleased to announce the 47 promising students selected from New York University and John Jay College of Criminal Justice to participate in this year's Summit, which focuses on Engaging Communities, and Transforming Policing. After careful review and consideration, the Summit Committee selected a diverse cohort of students based on their interest, ability to work collaboratively across difference, and leadership potential. We invite you to learn more about these talented students by reading their bios!

Through an intensive three-day leadership development program, the Summit invites students to think critically about a challenge facing their global community and develop the leadership skills needed to create meaningful impact.This year's Summit's theme addresses challenges within the U.S. criminal justice system regarding policing practices and how they affect communities.

Students will engage in peer-to-peer learning, examine a leadership framework rooted in collective work, and participate in experiential workshops. As part of the program, students will be visiting the Center for NuLeadership and the Brooklyn Community Foundation. They willalso work on a real-world challenge proposed by the Vera Institute of Justice and Performing Statistics and generate ideas to advance their mission and goals.

  • Ghita Schwarz, Senior Staff Attorney at the Center for Constitutional Rights
  • Gina Lyles, Program Coordinator of Self-Advocacy Program at ART 180
  • Mark Strandquist, Cultural Organizer, Writer and Adjunct Faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University
  • Anne-Laure Fayard,Associate Professor of Management in the Department of Technology Management and Innovation at NYU Tandon School of Engineering

This Thursday, May 18th at 1PM EST, catch a livestream of the opening panel conversation "Engaging Communities, Transforming Policing: Perspectives From the Field".The panel will examine policing structures and practices from a “systems” perspective, assess their impact on communities and explore implications for engaging communities to transform policing.
