The federal government offers limited oversight of disaster response, particularly at the local level. Come hear from those directly engaged in the battle for legislative oversight and documenting lessons from disasters. We will discuss the post-9/11 push for federal engagement in learning from the World Trade Center, post-Katrina FEMA reforms, and proposed legislation to establish a National Disaster Safety Board. Speakers include advocates, current and past Congressional staffers. This will be a unique and revealing “inside view” of the legislative process, and how forces must align for effective action.
