The Social Security Administration, Office of the Inspector General (SSA/OIG) is a federal agency that is responsible for promoting economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in the administration of SSA programs and operations and to prevent and detect fraud, waste, abuse and mismanagement in such programs and operations. The SSA/OIG is comprised of an immediate office and six main components. Those components are the following:
Office of Investigations
Office of Audit
Office of the Chief Strategy Officer
Office of Resource Management
Office of Informational Technology
Office of Counsel to the Inspector General
The Office of Investigations (OI) is looking to hire several entry-level Special Agents (Sworn Criminal Investigators) throughout the country. OI conducts and coordinates investigative activity related to fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement in SSA programs and operations. This office serves as OIG’s liaison to the Department of Justice on all matters relating to the investigation of SSA programs and personnel. OI also conducts joint investigations with other Federal, State and local law enforcement agencies. The duties of a Special Agent include, but are not limited to:
Conduct Interviews of subjects and witnesses
Review and analyze various types of records (bank records, phone records, employment records, medical records etc.…)
Prepare detailed reports
Participate in surveillance operations
Execute Arrest Warrants and Search Warrants
Testify in court hearings (grand juries, trials, sentencings)
Give presentations to other law enforcement agencies and local SSA offices
Attend the Criminal Investigator Training Program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC)
Attend the Inspector General Academy at FLETC
