End Date: 12/5/2015End Time: 10:00 AM

Event Description:

The new Sustainability and Environmental Justice program at John Jay College will participate in ArtCop21,  a worldwide arts festival leading up to the UN Conference on Climate Change in Paris (COP21) in December, with the performances of four plays of the Climate Change Theater Action Project on John Jay’s radio station, RADio568. Under the direction of Theater Professor Karen Malpede, students in Sustainability and Environmental Justice and Theatre Arts classes, will give dramatic readings and discuss the themes of each play.

The featured plays are The Cow Is Dead by Deborah Zoe Laufer, an inter-generational argument about meat and climate change; Starving to Death in Midtown by Mindy Dickstein, about the fate of bees in central Manhattan; The Same Bullshit by Koffi Kwahule, about the proposed eviction of garbage dump dwellers to make way for a golf course; and Portuguese Tomato by Elaine Avila, about food, memory and resistance.
