Event Description: All faculty are invited to an upcoming lecture co-sponsored by the Dispute Resolution Center, the Political Science Department and the Sociology Department titled, Is Peace Possible? The Israel/Palestine Pulse on Wednesday, November 2 from 2:00 - 3:15 pm in Room 610 T. Lunch will be served. RSVP to mvolpe@jjay.cuny.edu or jcarmalt@jjay.cuny.edu
Speakers will be: Professor Khalil Shikaki, the Director of the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research in Ramallah and a Visiting Professor at Brandeis University and his co-researcher Professor Tamar S. Hermann, who is the Academic Director of the Guttman Center for Surveys at the Israel Democracy Institute and a Professor at the Open University in Israel. The session will be moderated by Professor Nicolas Rofougaran of the Sociology Department and the Dispute Resolution Center.
The speakers will discuss their new joint research highlighting similarities and contrasts among Israelis and Palestinians. In addition, they will address the “sacred values” that impede peace efforts, domestic actors who promote or resist a peace settlement, incentives that might garner public support for peace, and the role of external players. |
