María Conchita Hernández Legorreta will speak to students about her life as an undocumented Latina with disabilities, but more importantly, about the education research and non -profit work that she does in order to counter the marginalization of Latinxs and immigrants in Disability Rights discussions and movements in the United States and in Latin America. She will also discuss the needs of Latinx students in higher education in general as well as during a pandemic and efforts to center their needs as we develop a more inclusive and comprehensive awareness of disability rights in the United States and the Americas.
María Conchita Hernández Legorreta is the co-founder of the Latinx Disability Coalition and founder of METAS (Mentoring, Teaching and Engaging All Students). A doctoral student at George Washington University, she trains educators in Latin America that work with blind/low vision students and other disabilities and engages lawmakers in policy discussions around people with disa- bilities and inclusion. |
