Event Description: International Education Week Guest Lecture
The Mastermind: Life in the Shadows
A Reading and Discussion with Novelist David Unger
Winner of Guatemala’s 2014 Miguel Ángel Asturias National Literature Prize
Director of the Publishing Program at The City College of New York
In 2009, Guatemalan lawyer Rodrigo Rosenberg was killed. At his funeral, his friends distributed a video in which he accused President Colom of having him murdered. The recording went viral and tens of thousands of Guatemalans took to the streets asking the military to intervene and oust the president. He refused to resign and the country spiraled into a state of crisis. The Mastermind is a love story that, at the same time, focuses on issues of corruption and impunity in Guatemala.
The Office of International Studies & Programs is pleased to join with the Department of English in co-sponsoring this event.
