About the Program:
PRI’s College Initiative provides individuals with prior criminal justice involvement with the skills, knowledge, and social capital necessary to excel in higher education and become successful, contributing members of society. The College Initiative holds an annual graduation ceremony to recognize the accomplishments of its students and to convene various supporters of the program. This year, students earned degrees from John Jay College, in addition to several CUNY and SUNY schools, the College of New Rochelle, New York University, the Columbia University School of Social Work, and Northeastern University of Law.
Since it was first launched in 2002, College Initiative has helped over 1,400 students enroll in college. Hundreds of those students have earned college degrees, and roughly one-third of those graduates have earned multiple degrees.
