Event Description:
Umberto Giordano’s presents:
Siberia
Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 8:00pm
The first performance of Siberia took place on December 19, 1903, with DeLuca, Storchio, and Zenatello conducted by Cleofonte Campanini but it was not entirely successful, although it made the rounds of all the major theaters in Italy and in Buenos Aires, Lisbon, Santiago, Cairo, Paris, Mexico City, Paris (with Lina Cavalieri), and in New York at the Manhattan Opera House. In 1927, Giordano revised the opera which was unveiled once again at La Scala. We will be presenting this version of the opera. As Romeo Carugati wrote in his review of the original première in La Lombardia on December 20, 1903,“Siberia’s harmonic palette is varied, colorful, and certain pages reveal an admirable study and love of the descriptive polyphony for both acts. |
