Repairing Relationships and Strengthening City Government
Please join the staff of OATH’s Center for Creative Conflict Resolution as they discuss their philosophy and pathway to becoming the conflict resource center for New York City government and its multiple stakeholders. Launched just over two years ago, the Center provides a range of interests-based options – mediation, conflict coaching, training, group facilitation, restorative processes, conflict consultations and dispute system design - in a traditionally rights-based workplace. Those options focus on building understanding, repairing relationships, improving communication and emphasizing the fundamental connections that we all share as human beings, with the ultimate goal of enhancing public service. With support from leadership and a growing list of agency and union partners, the Center hopes to positively transform the culture around conflict in City government to one that engages the creative opportunities and recognizes that the heart of any well-functioning organization is its people.
SPEAKERS:
Hon. Raymond E. Kramer is an administrative law judge at the New York City Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH), where he serves as the Director of the Administrative Judicial Institute and the Executive Director of OATH’s Center for Creative Conflict Resolution. He is an experienced mediator and an adjunct clinical professor of law at New York University Law School, where he co-teaches the Mediation and Advanced Mediation: Dispute System Design Clinics. He is also an adjunct professor at New York University’s School of Professional Studies, where he teaches Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management in the Human Resources Master’s Degree program, and New York University’s Wagner School, where he teaches Negotiation.
Justo A. Sanchez serves as the Center's Director of Center Services. An experienced Mediator, Justo developed his craft actively mediating community and family disputes as well as court referred cases at various venues throughout New York City. From 2005-2010, he served as the Director of OATH's initial workplace mediation program, The Center for Mediation Services. His prior positions include serving as a Child Permanency Mediator with the New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, mediating child permanency matters in the NYC Family Courts. He also served as Mediation Coordinator with the Center for Court Innovation, where he managed the Harlem Community Justice Center's Mediation Program. Throughout his career, he has worked with a wide variety of groups, couples and individuals across a broad spectrum of conflict themes and contexts. Justo received his Bachelor of Arts from Hunter College.
Sethu L. Nair serves as the Center's Conflict Resolution Specialist. She manages Conflict Resolution services including Mediation, Group Facilitation, Conflict Coaching and Restorative Practices. A Mediator, Circle Keeper and Coach, Sethu has worked across a range of conflicts including; family matters, small business disputes, non-profit staff and board challenges, workplace conflict and community discord. She is also a leadership development and personal transformation Coach and a founding member of the team at Hidden Water NYC, where she facilitates restorative circles to heal the impact of child sexual abuse in the family system. Prior to joining the Center, Sethu ran her own Conflict Management and Coaching practice. She has also worked for various human rights organizations in New York and India. Sethu is graduate of SUNY Purchase and the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University and delights in the dynamic interplay of relationships, communication and conflict.
Halley B. Anolik, Esq. serves as the Center's Director of Education and Training. With a background in mediation, Halley coordinates, creates and delivers training to city agencies on ways to understand and incorporate conflict resolution theory and techniques in their workplace. Halley is continuously learning and teaching from a place that examines opportunities for increased understanding and party self-determination in conflict. Prior to joining the Center, Halley worked at New York Center for Interpersonal Development where she mediated a variety of case types, collaborated with courts, schools and various community groups to implement mediation programs and provided training in conflict resolution. She graduated cum laude from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law with a concentration in Alternative Dispute Resolution and is the Director of Brooklyn Law School's Mediation Clinic. |
